How Does An Air Compressor Work?

Release Time:2025.04.02 Browse:17

An air compressor is a device that converts power (using an electric motor, diesel or gasoline engine, etc.) into potential energy

stored in compressed air (ie, compressed air).

By one of several methods, air compressors force more and more air into the air tank, increasing pressure.

When the tank pressure reaches its design limit, the air compressor will shut downThe compressed air will then remain in the tank until it is used.

The energy contained in compressed air can be used because the kinetic energy of the air can be used in a variety of applications

when it is released and the tank is decompressed. When the storage tank pressure reaches its lower limit, the air compressor turns

on again and re-pressurizes the storage tank. An air compressor must be different from a pump because it works with any gas / air,

while the pump works with a liquid.

cool down

Due to adiabatic heating, air compressors need some way to deal with waste heat.

Usually, this is some form of air or water cooling, although some (especially rotary) compressors may be oil cooled

(and then air or water cooled). Atmospheric changes should also be considered during compressor cooling.

The type of cooling depends on considerations such as inlet temperature, ambient temperature, compressor power and application area.

No compressor can be used for any application.
